7:15 PM - 8:00 PM

Venue:

RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London W1B 1AD

Description:

Colonel Richard Seifert was one of the most prolific architects during the post war era and is said to have shaped London's skyline more than any architect since Wren.

As new proposals to convert his towering Centre Point to residential use puts the work of buccaneering commercial architect Richard Seifert in the limelight once more, this performance collaboration between photographer Sarah Duncan and Catherine Croft (C20 Society Director) uses newly commissioned images and archival texts to explore the private life, and the public image of the man once described as the 'Offenbach of architecture'.

Why did 'The Colonel' generate such personal notoriety? Which are his best buildings? What separates this space age celebrity architect from the star architects of today? And what does this tell us about shifts in architectural culture since the 1960s?

Cost: £5 (non-members welcome)
