My House, My Practice – architects talk about houses they designed for themselves in the context of their work.

The Complete Lecture Series  29 October 2015 - 3 December 2015

The post war years saw more architects designing their own houses than at any other period in history. The resulting houses, often acting as a manifesto as well as a home, can inform us about the link between the individuals and their architectural practices. In this novel lecture series, we range across the past 50 years, with distinguished architects Edward Cullinan and Richard Burton, through to Bill Dunster’s statement about sustainability predating his BedZED scheme, and one of the most publicized manifesto houses of recent years, the home of Sarah Wigglesworth and Jeremy Till, next to the railway tracks out of King’s Cross. Chronologically, we finish with two very recent houses, one in London and one in Edinburgh, both by architects with high reputations. (Photograph of Burton house © Historic England, James O Davies)
