Dalle-de-Verre at St Peter's Church, Hall Green, Birmingham
Sunday 30 June 2024
Start time: 3pm
Finish time: 5pm
Place: St Peter’s Church, Highfield Road, Hall Green, Birmingham B28 0BT
Katriona Bryne will lead a visit to celebrate Birmingham’s newest listed twentieth-century church – St Peter’s church, Hall Green, constructed 1961-64. We will focus on its collection of dalle-de-verre glass by Tristan Ruhlmann (1923-1982) installed in 1964. We will be accompanied by Jo Prinsen, dalle-de-verre expert, and Rev. Martin Stephenson who has collated an exhibition of photos of Ruhlmann’s work in Alsace.
Katriona Bryne is the Deputy Head of the School of Architecture and Design at Birmingham City University (BCU).
Jo Prinsen completed her MA in Conservation at BCU in 2023 on the neglected art of dalle-de-verre, a modern glass technique, much used in post-WWII churches.
Martin Stephenson is vicar at the church of St Peter’s and in 2018 visited France to study the work of Ruhlmann.
