Ana Sutherland will lead a visit to a series of Span estates (1954-1984) by Eric Lyons, and houses by Patrick Gwynne, Walter Greaves and Peter Moro. She will explain the history of Span, the buildings, and connections.

The tour’s route starts at the main entrance to the Cator estate, by Spangate (1964). Highlights include no. 10 Blackheath Park (Patrick Gwynne, 1969) and no. 20 (Peter Moro, 1958) and Rocque Lane (Walter Greaves, 1968). We will be able to visit inside a Span house and will end the walk at South Row (Eric Lyons, 1963) by the open heath.

Ana Sutherland is a practicing architect based in Blackheath. Her book Modern Buildings in Blackheath and Greenwich 1950-2000 was published this summer. She is the leader of the Blackheath Society, Architecture Group and organises tours in the area for Open City.
