Curator Tour of ‘Artists Against Fascism’ Exhibition at Tate Britain
Saturday 15 February 2025
Start time/finish time: 11am/12.30pm
Place: Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG
Join Tate Britain guest curator Andy Friend as he leads an exclusive tour for C20 Society members exploring the history of the British ‘Artists’ International Association’.
The Artists International Association was formed in 1933 by a group of out of work artists. This new organisation came at a time of economic and political turmoil. Within four years the association had 900 members and was influential in helping to change the course of British art history.
The current Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Archive Gallery exhibition tells the remarkable story of how some of Britain’s prominent artists embraced a cultural popular front, and how their internationalism heralded a better post-war future. The display includes works from the Tate collection, and with extensive use of recently obtained artists papers.
Andy Friend’s tour of the exhibition will include an exploration of the relationship to architecture, design and post-war reconstruction. There will be an opportunity for participants to gather at the cafe afterwards for Q&A’s, further discussion and refreshments.
C20 Members only: £15
