In 1988, Paul Greenhalgh published his book Ephemeral Vistas: The Expositions Universelles, Great Exhibitions and World’s Fairs, 1851-1939 and in 2010, Fair World: A History of World’s Fairs and Expositions 1851-2010. His talk will look at the formats inherited from the nineteenth century and how they changed when passing into the twentieth.
Paul Greenhalgh trained as a painter and art historian. He was Head of Research at the V&A before moving to Nova Scotia and Washington DC. Returning to England, he was director of the Sainsbury Centre at the University of East Anglia and Chief Executive of the Zaha Hadid Foundation. He is working on a book on the legacy of Art Nouveau.
