In Person: Twentieth Century Seaside Architecture Book Launch
Twentieth Century Seaside Architecture Book Launch
Wednesday 18 June 2025 at 6.30pm
The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EJ
Join Kathryn Ferry as she introduces her new book: Twentieth Century Seaside Architecture, full of gloriously saturated period postcards that will have you reaching for the sunglasses.
The book is an exciting exploration of Britain’s distinctive and architecturally significant coastal buildings, from the 1920s to the new millennium. It’s the first look at how resort architecture around the UK coast kept pace with changing fashions and the increasing competition of foreign destinations.
The sun-soaked talk will be followed by a panel discussion with Adam Coleman and Fred Gray, on the current state and potential futures of the Great British Seaside.
Kathryn Ferry is a historian, author and lecturer specialising in Architecture, Design and Seaside Culture.
Adam Coleman is a Folkestone-based C20 trustee, producer, fundraiser and strategist in the cultural sector.
Fred Gray is Emeritus Professor at the University of Sussex and author of books including Designing the Seaside (2006) and The Architecture of British Seaside Piers (2020).
If you can't make it in person, there's an online version of the event too.
