In person: Lecture Series Buildings for Sport & Leisure: 3. Hopkins – Building for sport, Mike Taylor
Thursday 6 November at 6.30pm – 8pm
The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EJ
Hopkins Architects have designed some of the most dramatic and innovative sports buildings of recent years including the Mound Stand at Lord’s cricket ground (1987), the Olympic Velodrome (2011) and the new covered courts for the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon. Mike Taylor, lead architect for both the Velodrome and Wimbledon schemes, will talk about the technical and design challenges of international sports venues like these and the solutions they found.
Mike Taylor is a principal at Hopkins Architects. He studied at Bristol Univesity and the Mackintosh School of Architecture. After working with Giancarlo De Carlo he joined the Hopkins’ practice in 1992. His other projects include The Living Planet Centre for WWF, The School of Environmental Science at Yale, and The Frick Chemistry Laboratory at Princeton.
