Visit to Rescued Concrete Society Archives, Birmingham City University
Saturday 6 December 2025, 2pm–4pm

Place: Foyer of the Curzon Building, Cardigan Street, Birmingham B4 7BD

Join us in a visit to the rescued archives of the Concrete Society (mainly the photographic collections) now held in Birmingham City University. The archives feature a range of postwar buildings and landscapes, typologies such as police stations and swimming pools. There are also highly interesting film reels on various instructional matters.

The Concrete Society was established in 1966 to meet the growing need for a unified organisation representing all those involved in concrete, including designers, contractors, researchers, and suppliers.

Ticket numbers are very limited – as it is also the Christmas meetup of the West Midlands Committee.

Katriona Byrne is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment; Anthony Hughes is Head of Cultural Archives and Collections; both are at Birmingham City University (BCU).
