Brutalist London book launch
Brutalist London book launch
Tuesday 16 June 2026 at 6:30pm – 8pm
BDP Clerkenwell, 16 Brewhouse Yard, London EC1V 4LJ
Join C20 Society for a book launch of Brutalist London published by Blue Crow Media.
Written by architectural historian Owen Hopkins and photographed by Nigel Green, the book features more than fifty extraordinary buildings, with an introduction and maps.
The book reveals the beauty, ambition and social ideals that shaped London's most iconic Brutalist structures – from the Barbican and National Theatre to lesser-known private homes and civic structures. All these buildings, once vilified, are now celebrated and truly belong to their neighbourhoods.
Owen Hopkins is Director of the Farrell Centre at Newcastle University. Previously, he was Senior Curator at Sir John Soane’s Museum and before that Architecture Programme Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts (RA). He's a prolific writer and author of The Manifesto House (Yale University Press, 2025), The Brutalists (Phaidon, 2023) and Postmodern Architecture: Less is a Bore (Phaidon, 2020).
Nigel Green is a photographer, artist and lecturer. He has exhibited and published many photographic projects that document genres of modernist architecture across the UK and Europe. His books include Modernist Paris (Blue Crow, 2023) and Katowice (Silverhill Press, 2018).
The book will be available for purchase at the event.
