Join us in exploration of this rarely accessible South London complex created as a part of The Peckham Experiment – a groundbreaking investigation into the nature of health.
Pioneer Health Centre was designed by the famed architect Owen Williams and was described by Walter Gropius as ‘an oasis of glass in a desert of brick’. The Centre offered a variety of facilities, including a gym, swimming pool, dance hall, cafeteria, games rooms, nursery, and library.
The tour will be guided by residents and we will get access to 2–3 private flats, as well as to the swimming pool and other shared spaces. We'll also see a small exhibition with archive materials and an expert will be on hand to answer any questions.
The event is organised together with The Peckham Experiment CIC, which preserves and promotes the legacy of the project, keeping it central to discussions about health and wellbeing.
