A revival of Elephant and Castle walk which Richard Walker created with the late Elain Harwood in 2019. It covers the ever changing urban landscape around the neighbourhood, and includes important 1960s social housing including what remains of the Aylesbury Estate and Richard’s own, recently renovated Goldfinger buildings, the former Alexander Fleming House.
The walk starts with some key 1960s social housing , which includes Perronet House, Draper House and what remains of the Aylesbury Estate. We’ll see the new Elephant Park redevelopment, some key buildings around Bricklayers Arms, including the last project by Lubetkin and end with a visit to Richard’s own apartment in Metro Central Heights 1958-64 by Ernö Goldfinger.
Richard Walker, visual artist and photographer, C20 tour leader since 2002, author of ‘Faro Modernism’ published by Batsford Books in May 2026.
