Start time/place: 10:30am/Outside Angel Station, Islington High Street, London N1 8XX
Finish time/place: 12:30pm/Outside Angel Station
A circular tour of the Angel Islington with Alec Forshaw, former Principal Design and Conservation Officer with Islington Council, looking at how the area has been regenerated over the last 40 years.
The walk will take in the redevelopment of Anderson’s Yard (CZWG and Andrews Downie 1999), the former Royal Free Hospital (Levitt Bernstein and Pollard Thomas Edwards 1992), the Business Design Centre (RHWL, Rick Mather 1994), Islington Square (CZWG 2021), the N1 Shopping Centre (Chapman Taylor 2002 and 2021), and the Angel Building (AHMM 2026), showing how good new design and public realm have been instrumental in regenerating the Angel area over the last 40 years.
Alec Forshaw worked for the London Borough of Islington for over 30 years as principal conservation and design officer and has a personal insight into all the developments that the walk will encompass. He is the author of 20th Century Buildings in Islington.
