[online] One hundred years of Portmeirion

Thursday 8 October 2026 at 6.30pm

This event is organised by C20 Cymru.

Join us in exploration of the hundred-year history of Portmeirion Village, the unique site designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. The village and resort sit on the dramatic North Walian coastline reflecting an Italianate style with its piazzas and pastel shades

The talk will be illustrated with archival highlights and photographs from Sarah Baylis’s new book, Portmeirion: The Architecture of Pleasure (Yale University Press, 2026).

In addition to Portmeirion: The Architecture of Pleasure, two visual guides have been published to mark the centenary: The Buildings of Portmeirion (by Rachel Hunt) and The Sculpture of Portmeirion (by Diane Bilbey). Dipping into all three publications, Rachel will share some recent discoveries, personal highlights, and previously unpublished material spanning Portmeirion’s hundred-year history.

Rachel Hunt began her career with the National Trust in 1995. From 2001-17 she worked at Cotehele in Cornwall before embarking on a sabbatical placement at Portmeirion, which led to her current role as Collections Curator both there and at Plas Brondanw. She has an MA in Museum Studies and is an Associate of the Museums Association.
