[online] 21st Century Architecture: MAGGIE’S CENTRES Siobhan Wyatt (Maggie's) and Caterina Frisone (Oxford Brookes)
Thursday 19 November 2026 at 6:30pm—7:45pm
Learn more about some of the best 21st-century architecture from the people who made it happen. We’ve paired leading architects and academics for themed lectures where they will present their work, before sitting down to discuss their individual approaches to similar projects.
Maggie’s, a network of cancer supporting facilities, have emerged as one of the most successful examples of architectural patronage of the 21st century. There are currently 27 Centres in the UK, small but remarkable buildings that offer the perfect combination of human care and architecture. The list of famous architecture practices involved in the design of Maggie’s centres include Zaha Hadid Architects, Gehry Partners, OMA, Foster + Partners and Snøhetta. Richard Murphy designed the very first centre in Edinburgh in 1995.
We’ll hear from Maggie’s Property Director Siobhan Wyatt, who is responsible for the building and maintenance of all the centres. Siobhan works directly with architects and designers through the whole commissioning and construction process, and so is uniquely placed for giving us an in-depth overview. For an academic overview we’ll be joined by architect and educator Caterina Frisone, author of The Therapeutic Power of the Maggie’s Centre (2024, Routledge).
Siobhan Wyatt is Property Director at Maggie’s and leads the development of new centres through design and construction. She helped to deliver Maggie’s Southampton, designed by Amanda Levete and the most recent centre at the Royal Free, designed by Daniel Libeskind. Prior to joining Maggie’s, Siobhan worked for a leading Construction Consultancy helping deliver a wide range of building projects.
Caterina Frisone is an architect, educator and associate researcher at the School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University and at IUAV University of Venice. She’s the author of The Therapeutic Power of the Maggie’s Centre (2024, Routledge).
The series coincides with the new C20 book 100 21st Century Buildings (2026, Batsfords).
