Catch up: Cressingham Gardens: An English Garden Estate
Thursday 17th December at 18.30
Presented by Will Jennings, Catherine Croft, Coco Whittaker and Tom Keene
Will Jennings’ beautiful film An English Garden (2020). is a poetic study of Cressingham Gardens, the 1970s Ted Hollamby designed housing estate in Lambeth, which has been threatened with demolition. Will will discuss his film with our Director Catherine Croft, Caseworker Coco Whittaker and local resident Tom Keene . Discover what makes this estate so special and what the latest news about its future is.
Short clips of the film will be shown on the night, but participants will also be sent a link to allow them to view it in full before hand-- which is much recommended. It is approximately 30 minutes long.
About the filmmaker :
Will Jennings is a writer, visual artist and educator interested in the built environment and all the environmental, cultural, political and economic areas it intersects with. His visual practice has included photography, installation, activism, performativity and moving image. He has written for publications including Landscape journal and the Journal of Civic Architecture. He also has an upcoming book of collected writings and visual work with Canalside Press in 2021. Tom Keene is a resident of Cressingham Gardens and has been since 2006. He is a core contributor to the @SaveCressingham activist campaign. Tom is also a PhD candidate in the Department of Design at Goldsmiths University of London, researching the social impact of housing-database technologies in the processes and politics of urban regeneration as part of an artist and activist-led research project 'Database (e)State'.
