British Cooling Towers - Sculptural Giants - SOLD OUT
British Cooling Towers: Sculptural Giants – Panel Discussion
Wednesday 14 June, 6:30pm
Margaret Howell - 34 Wigmore St, London W1U 2RS
In association with C20 Society, Margaret Howell will be hosting a panel to discuss the architectural and historical significance of British cooling towers, their impact on the British landscape and their uncertain future.
Tall enough to contain the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, these enigmatic concrete structures are an example of great technical skill and engineering and for many are a fond, familiar presence in the British landscape.
Chaired by C20 Society Director Catherine Croft, the panel discussion will explore various viewpoints on the legacy of the remaining towers and will propose innovative suggestions for repurposing them, to initiate wider debate on the country’s post-war industrial heritage.
Featuring Valeria Carullo (RIBA Photographic Curator), Otto Saumarez Smith (Architectural Historian and Chair of C20 Society Casework Committee), Stephanie Macdonald (Co-founder 6a architects) and Luke O'Donovan (Architectural Photographer).
