Campaigning for outstanding buildings

Oxford Street Walk

Oxford Street Walk

Sunday 17 September 2023

Start time/place: 10.30 / Oxford Circus, the south-west corner

Finish time/place: 12.00 / Marble Arch

In the wake of Michael Gove's decision to refuse permission for M&S to demolish its Art Deco store, Orchard House, near Marble Arch, Alec Forshaw will lead a walk along the western section of Oxford Street. We will look at the challenges facing this part of London's 'High Street' and some of the latest developments planned or in progress.

Alec Forshaw, town planner, conservationist and writer, is the author of ‘New City: Contemporary Architecture in the City of London’, and has recently been involved in the Public Inquiry over the future of the Custom House.
