City Fringe: Spitalfields and Shoreditch Walk

Place: Liverpool Street Station, Hope Square (in front of McDonalds/Kindertransport memorial), London EC2M 7PY
A circular walk led by Alec Forshaw looking at late 20th century and current 21st century buildings and developments, north and east of Liverpool Street, starting in the City but straying into Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
The walk will encompass the ongoing revamp of the Big-Bang Broadgate scheme (Hopkins, AHMM, MAKE and 3XN Architects), moving north to see Principal Place (Foster) and new buildings in Curtain Road (Perkins + Will). From there the tour will head east to walk through the recently-completed Norton Folgate development (AHMM, Stanton Williams, Morris + Co.), returning through Bishop’s Square taking in Fruit & Wool Exchange (Bennetts) and retrofits in Bishopsgate (Morey Smith and LOM).
Alec Forshaw writes and lectures regularly about development in London. For 32 years he worked as urban designer and conservation officer with the London Borough of Islington.
