A Watery Weekend in Bristol

A Watery Weekend in Bristol - Saturday 9th (after AGM) – Sunday 10th June
Led by: C20 West Region Group

This tour, led by Bob Hardcastle and Jack Konynenburg of the C20 West Region Group, will commence at the Clifton RC Cathedral.  After the C20 AGM members will be able to look around the cathedral, and a sandwich lunch will be provided for those attending the afternoon event. There will then be a coach trip to Bristol Harbour via some of the notable 20th Century insertions into the Georgian hilltop suburb of Clifton, such as All Saint’s Church and Bristol University Union.

We will then have a boat trip to observe, and discuss how this unique ‘floating harbour’, its architecture and its setting, were initially shunned but is now celebrated during the last 100 years. The West Group have arranged for a private space in a bar/ restaurant overlooking the harbour, where members can gather following the boat trip. From there the opportunity can be taken to explore the adjacent Millennium Square.

On Sunday there will be a walking tour around central Bristol followed by lunch (not included) at the museum café. Our final visit, and a highlight of the weekend, will be a private tour of the Ken Stradling Collection. Ken was director of the Bristol Guild of Applied Art, and his remarkable collection, comprising ceramics, furniture, glass and much else, has a permanent home at 48 Park Row.

Saturday: Immediately following C20 AGM at Clifton RC Cathedral.  Catch the No 8 bus from Temple Meads Railway Station to Pembroke Road (the location of the R.C. Cathedral). This leaves about every 10 minutes.

Sunday: 10.30am Bristol Museum café (next to Wills Memorial Tower, Queens Road). Finish time 4pm at Ken Stradling's
