West Yorkshire Weekend - Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield

Bradford Kirkgate Market

West Yorkshire Weekend -  Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield
Friday 6th- Sunday 8th July 2018 led by Andrew Jackson

The towns and cities of Yorkshire are home to a plethora of stunning twentieth century buildings and this weekend trip looks at those to be found in West Yorkshire, with a focus on Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield. The weekend will begin with a talk and drinks reception at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, where we hope to learn about Chamberlin Powell and Bon’s buildings at the University of Leeds before visiting their work on campus the following morning. The Saturday afternoon will see us travel by coach to nearby Bradford to take in Kirkgate Market (pictured) before heading to Huddersfield’s Queensgate Market on our way to Farnley Hey, where we’ll be treated to a tour of this RIBA medal-winning house and drinks hosted by the current owners. Sunday will begin at The Tetley, where we’ll look at how the 1930s brewery office block has been successfully converted to display contemporary art, before walking over to the neighbouring Royal Armouries designed by the late Derek Walker. The afternoon will be aboard the coach and feature a variety of building types in suburban Leeds before arriving back at Leeds railway station for those catching trains home.
