The Road to Finchleystrasse: emigre Hampstead in the 1930s FULLY BOOKED

The Road to Finchleystrasse: emigre Hampstead in the 1930s - Saturday 4th August 2018 FULLY BOOKED

Led by: Alan Powers and Joe Mathieson

Description: The main reason for this tour is to visit a 1938 house by the Viennese emigre architect, Hermann Herrey-Zweigenthal, which has survived in good condition and is being sold for the first time since 1952. It was never published and has escaped all gazetteers and listings. The architect was an interesting figure, who moved on to the USA, and about whom a book is appearing in 2018. On the way, we will call at the ever-popular Isokon Gallery at Lawn Road flats and see the newly-installed blue plaque commemorating the residence there of Gropius, Breuer and Moholy-Nagy. At the time of writing, the remainder of the tour is to be determined, but there are many other places of interest on the route.

Meet time/place: Meet at Belsize Park underground at 2.00pm. Tour finishes at 6.00pm near Swiss Cottage tube

Members’ price: £15.00  Non members: £20.00
