The Twentieth-Century Society is excited to announce a four week film series featuring architecture films by award-winning Scottish documentary filmmaker Murray Grigor OBE. Murray has made over 50 films on architecture and design topics in his career and is the former director of the Edinburgh International Film festival and an honorary fellow of RIBA.

From intimate portraits of stories of unique houses and spectacular gardens to biographies of pioneering modernist architects, textile and furniture designers, the series aims to encourage conversations about the role of filmmaking in popularising and evaluating aspects of C20 design. It also aims to foster a discussion around how the medium of film can contribute to architecture conservation.

The series will include films about the work of architect and gardener Peter Aldington (6th June); the ideas and creations of American architect John Lautner who trained under Frank Lloyd Wright (13th June); and the artistic journey Scottish architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh whose Glasgow School of Art is undergoing conservation following several fires (27th June). Beyond architecture, the series will feature a film about the story of British post-war design duo Robin and Lucienne Day (20th June). Each film screening will be accompanied by a specialist introduction and the series will conclude with a discussion and Q&A session with a panel of speakers, including Murray Grigor.

The panel of expert speakers is still to be completely finalised, and there is a small possibility that the order of the films may change, depending on speakers’ availability.  We will update the website and notify ticket holders should the order change

Members £40.00  Non Members £60.00 (to include a glass of wine)
