STAMPING GROUND - a City of London walking tour - FULLY BOOKED - 10.00am – 1.00pm | Sunday 15th September 2019

Led by Alan Powers

For Gavin Stamp, the City of London was a place of love (Wren, Hawksmoor, Victorians, Lutyens, McMorran) and of hate (bland and greedy buildings of any date). Walking from Monument to Smithfield, we will recall his enthusiasms and battles with his words and with anecdotes, covering churches, public spaces, lost monuments and opportunities lost and won.

Alan Powers first met Gavin when taught by him as a Cambridge undergraduate in 1976, beginning at that time a personal dialogue on the evaluation and interpretation of architecture of the recent past that continued for 40 years.

Meeting point: The Monument, Fish Street Hill (nearest tube Monument)
