Sheffield Hallam University

Friday 22nd November 2019

2pm - 4pm

Led by: Andrew Jackson

Acquired from the library of the Daily Mirror in the 1970's, and today numbering over 2000 items, the Festival of Britain archive at Sheffield Hallam University is the largest collection of Festival paraphernalia outside of London. Andrew Jackson will lead this afternoon visit to the archive with exclusive access to items from the collection and Dr Sophie Hollinshead, Cultural Geographer, will talk on the Festival as 'A Tonic for the Nation'. Highlights include unrealised competition drawings for the Skylon, pamphlets for associated events around the country and even a pair of embroidered Festival knickers!

Members of staff from the archive will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions.

This event is delivered in association with the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain (SAHGB)
