The Spring Lecture Series: High Spec
The spring lecture series will be the first to look at collaborations between architects and developers, in particular (but not exclusively) in building offices. The series accompanies the publication of the Society’s new journal.

Company: The Office Emerges, 1910-1940: Chris Rogers looks at the beginnings of the large commercial office in the City of London.
Chris Rogers’s books include the best-selling How to Read London – A crash course in London architecture, Ivy Press 2017

Otto Saumarez Smith is assistant professor at Warwick University and author of Boom Cities, Architect planners and the politics of radical urban renewal in 1960s Britain (2018)

Pile it High, the story of the skyscraper in Britain: Elain Harwood
There are lots of laws and unofficial agreements governing the height of London’s buildings, lots of myths and stories, but no real guide. Elain Harwood, senior architectural investigator at Historic England and co-editor of the Society’s journal, Twentieth Century Architecture, will fill the gap.

Richard Seifert: Architecture for Profit and the Post-War Public Sector: Ewan Harrison
Ewan Harrison is completing a PhD at the University of Liverpool on Seifert, and is cataloguing the archive of Colin St John Wilson & Partners at the RIBA Drawings and Archives Collection.

Structure and Servicing in the Post-War Office Building: Alistair Fair
Dr Alistair Fair is Lecturer in Architectural History at Edinburgh University, and in addition to a recent book about post-war theatre architecture, Modern Playhouses, has researched and published on environmental design.
Thursday 12 March
Sir Stuart Lipton, founder of Stanhope and co-founder of Chelsfield Property Company, will talk about development and some of his many projects.
