CORONAVIRUS UPDATE  We are obviously very concerned at the potential impact of site closures in the USA, and flight restrictions on this trip.  We will be in touch with everyone who has booked by email as soon as possible.

This tour will be led by Brent Smith, a retired Building Surveyor.  Brent is a long-standing member of C20 and leader of numerous overseas events for other organisations.

Join C20 Society for this fascinating tour of Chicago, the breeding ground of America's most innovative Modern architecture.  We will see how the events of the Great Fire of 1871, the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, the reversing of the Chicago Rver and the massive migratin of people westwards produced the ingredients for modern architecture to flourish.
The week will be packed with exciting architectural walks and trips by coach and public transport around the City and its environs to see the best and most interesting of the area's seminal buildings, designed from Frank Lloyd Wright to Renzo Piano.
Starting with a stroll down the Magnificent Mile on the first evening, we will see Mies van der Rohe's Lake Shore Apartments.  Other highlights will include viewing skyscapers from a boat trip down the Chicago River. Walking tours will include the Millenium Park with Anish Kapoor's sculpture 'Cloud Gate'; the Art Deco buildings on The Loop; and to Oak Park with visits to Frank Lloyd Wright's home/studio and to his Unity Church.
Coach and train trips will feature visits to SC Johnson in Racine for its Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings; the Fortaleza Hall, designed by Foster & Partners; Marina City; the campuses of Illinois Institute of Technology and University of  Chicago; and the Farnsworth House amongst others.
Particular highlights will be a group dinner with Chicago Art Deco Society members and a private evning reception at Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House.
