Chester & North East Wales Weekend

Theatre Clwyd

Friday 15 - Sunday 17 May 2020

Location: Chester

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE This event includes a number of interior visits and travel by coach.  We are currently reviewing whether or not it is sensible for us to proceed with it.  We are looking into the feasibility of running it with the option of following the coach in private cars if you do not want to be on the couch.  We will be in touch via email with everyone who has already booked if it is decided NOT to proceed as planned.

Led by Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson returns to Wales following last year’s popular weekend in Gwynedd. This time, he explores the north east of the country with another packed itinerary. Based just across the English border in Chester, the weekend begins on Friday afternoon with a walk around the city centre and tour of Storyhouse – the award winning conversion of Chester Odeon (1936) to a state-of-the-art theatre, cinema and library complex. Saturday and Sunday are aboard a coach and will take in a number of buildings in Chester and North Wales. Starting and finishing in Chester, Saturday includes a guided tour of Theatr Clwyd (1976, pictured), while Sunday sees the coach follow the North Wales Expressway as far as Colwyn Bay, taking in a variety of building types including churches by Goodhart-Rendel, Rinvolucri and others.

The recommended hotel is the Pentagram-designed Holiday Inn Express at Chester Racecourse, which is also the departure point for the coach. Alternative hotel accommodation is available, but Chester Racecourse is offering us a deal of £99 per night including breakfast and parking (check in 2:00pm) – details of how to book using the offer will be sent in a separate email once event booking is complete.

A buffet lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. There are plenty of dinner options in Chester city centre to suit all tastes and budgets.

Finish – 16.30 Sunday 17 May, Chester Railway Station
