Poundbury Tour - organised by the C20 Southern Group
Saturday 25 September 2021 9.45am to 1pm
Jason Bowerman, Estate Development Manager of the Duchy of Cornwall at Poundbury, will lead a socially distanced walking tour of a much-discussed experimental town, 28 years after work started on the 400-acre site on the edge of Dorchester. The town nears completion in 2025 when it will become home to more than 6,000 residents.
The Prince of Wales commissioned a masterplan for Poundbury from Léon Krier in 1988. Work started in 1993 and various architects have designed buildings for the town including John Simpson - the market hall (2000), Quinlan and Francis Terry - office buildings (2018), and an Arts & Crafts nursing home by James Gorst.
Participants are requested to socially distance and wear a face covering during the walk and inside buildings.
