Finish time/place: 1pm/Russell Square Station, Bernard Street
The walk focuses on East Bloomsbury, including an eclectic mix of buildings around Herbrand Street and Brunswick Square, new hospital developments on Guildford Street, hidden gems in Doughty and John's Mews, recently completed Bedford House, the Tybalds Estate, Great Ormond Street and Queen Square.
It will include buildings by significant architectural practices: Wallis Gilbert, Hall Easton & Robertson, R.H. Uren, Patrick Hodgkinson, Farrell & Grimshaw, Stanton Williams, Anshen Dyer, Allies and Morrison, Jamie Fouberts and 6a Architects, and many others besides.
Alec Forshaw, formerly principal conservation and design officer with the London borough of Islington, has lived in Bloomsbury for nearly 30 years. He has written widely on the history and development of London including, ‘New City: Contemporary Architecture in the City of London’ (2013).
