Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) is considered one of the most important figures of Italian 20th century modernism and his work has been acclaimed internationally. Renowned for his love of crafts and understanding of materials, he was heavily influenced by the heritage of his city, Venice, as well as that of Japan.
The tour will be led by Valeria Carullo and include all Scarpa’s most important projects in the Veneto: in Venice the highlights will be his pavilions at the Biennale Gardens (1950-56), the Olivetti Showroom (1957-58), the Querini Stampalia Foundation (1961-65), and we will also have access to the interiors he designed for the University of Venice in two palaces on the Grand Canal.
In Verona we will visit the renowned Castelvecchio Museum (Scarpa’s interventions 1958-74). Another trip out of town will take us to the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova in Possagno (1955-57) and the Brion Tomb in San Vito D’Altivole (1968-78).
