The Mildmay Club, London: a 1960s time capsule Tour – C20 MEMBERS ONLY
Wednesday 11 September 2024
Start/Finish time: 6.30 pm/8.30 pm
Place: The Mildmay Club, 33-34 Stoke Newington Green, London, N1 9PR
Led by club committee members, Andrea Davies and Penny Laughton, together with Hackney’s Principal Conservation and Design Officer, we will tour the club, normally only open to members.
The Mildmay Club is grade II listed, designed by Alfred Allan and built in 1900. The special 1960s interior is a great draw for film and TV locations, advertising and fashion shoots, and a unique and very popular event venue.
We will see the main rooms including the nine-table snooker hall, which retains much of its original early twentieth century decor, and the impressive main hall which is home to a busy members’ events programme.
The governing committee and members are rightly proud of the Mildmay’s heritage and participants will have the chance to hear from the club’s archivist and view items from the club’s extensive archive, some material only recently discovered.
We will also hear from the committee member overseeing the Mildmay’s renovation project, including essential infrastructure work, and about the council’s conservation role.
Attendees are invited to stay for a drink in the members’ bar at the conclusion of the visit at their own cost.
Andrea Davies is a C20 member and has been on the Mildmay committee for three years. Penny Laughton, also a Mildmay member, has organised several C20 events.
Please note that all rooms in the club are accessed by steps, some steep.
C20 Members only: £20
