Lilian Bayliss School

17/06/2017 – 17/07/2017

[17/29]

London

Around Kennington Lane  - Saturday 17th June 2017 1.30pm

Led by: Doug Black

This walk, led by Doug Black, will explore the development of housing estates around Kennington Lane, including the first estate in the London Borough of Lambeth to feature medium-to-high rise blocks.  The design of this estate is imbued with the Festival of Britain spirit.  Lambeth Architects' Department's 1966-68 Cotton Gardens Estate will be visited, as well as the earlier China Walk Estate, developed after post WWI concerns regarding poor housing conditions, and the consequent slum clearances.  The Lambeth Slipper Baths of 1958, now converted into a health centre, and Civic Trust Award winning community care centre by Edward Cullinan will also be on the walk route, together with the Lilian Bayliss school by Architects’ Co-Partnership. Walk ends at Kennington tube station.

Meet time/place: 2.00pm St. Paul’s Lorrimore Square, London, SE17 3QU following C20 Society AGM

Members Only: £10.00
