The historic Pentonville and City Roads link Kings Cross to Old Street. The area around them has seen considerable development throughout the C20. An industrial and service area before and after WW2, Finsbury Borough Council built several large social housing schemes in the 50s and 60s, and more recently it become a student housing, and is now a must go area for high rise residential development. The ‘silicon roundabout’ at Old Street has also become a developer’s target, with 5 star hotels and student housing as well as new offices proliferating. But there is plenty left and this is an opportunity to see the wide range of different C20 period buildings from Art Deco, through Brutalism to contemporary.
