Bauhaus in Bristol with Alan Powers

Saturday 25th January 2020
2.00pm - c4.00pm

The Bauhaus in Bristol is an exhibition tracing the story of the remarkable friendship between Bristol furniture manufacturer Crofton Gane and leading Bauhaus furniture designer and architect Marcel Breuer, with Breuer peices made for Gane in his workshiops, alongside archival material and a model of Breuer's famous 1936 Gane Pavilion.  We are visiting the exhibition on the final day of its run.
The Ken Stradling Collection, where the exhibition is held, deserves visiting in its own right, with its classic domestic craft and design items chosen by the former director of the Bristol Guild of Applied Art - specialising in Italian and Scandinavian glass, lighting, studio pottery furniture and grown-up toys, from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Alan Powers, who curated a selection of the Stradling Collection for a touring exhibition in 2015, will give a guided tour in conjunction with Chris Yeo, the in-house curator and star of BBC's Antiques Roadshow.  The collection forms part of the Bristol Guild premises, with tempting shopping opportunities.

Meet: 2.00pm at 48 Park Row, Bristol, BS1 5LH, close to the Wills Tower and the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
