White City in the 21st Century - Walk
John Goodier will lead a socially distanced walk of the major new construction and conversion projects at White City, including the BBC buildings and new Imperial College campus.

The area we will visit was the site of the White City exhibitions between 1908 and 1914, and the 1908 Olympic Games stadium. The first major redevelopment of the area was the White City Estate in the 1930s and has continued ever since.
The BBC arrived in the 1950s with the Television Centre (Norman & Dawbarn, 1955-60) listed grade II in 2008. Later the BBC developed the Media Village on the site of the stadium in the 1990s. Both these sites have since been redeveloped. Westfield occupies the last remains of the White City. Other industrial sites to the north have been developed as housing and Imperial College have built a new campus to the north.
The walk will take us along publicly accessible roads and spaces, and be limited to external viewing. On route we will pass some minor sites that are additional to the main projects. The area continues in an ongoing process of regeneration and redevelopment which is altering the area, and the wider implications will be touched upon.
The walk will be socially distanced and participants should wear a face mask and remember to stay at least two metres apart from each other where required.
John Goodier is a long-term resident of the area who has taken an interest in the various redevelopment and regeneration plans, and has been active in local amenity groups. He is a long standing C20 member who has led many walks focussing on the development and redevelopment of London’s suburbs.
