SPRING LECTURE SERIES - PART 2: REDISCOVERING REGIONAL PRACTICES

The complete series of the second part of the Spring Lectures. The four lectures rediscover regional practices across England, Scotland, and Wales especially of the Post War period. The series revisits the subject of regional architects in  C20 Journal 12: Houses: Regional Practice and Local Character  (available online from the Society for the special price of £10 while stocks last)

1.Stout and Litchfield. Presented by Elain Harwood. Thursday 24 March 2022 at 8 pm

Elain Harwood will discuss Stout and Litchfield who were a small London-based practice founded in the early 1960s specialising in private houses and conversions, and later involved in the self-build movement.

2. Austin Vernon & Partners in Dulwich. Presented by Ian Mc Innes. Thursday 31 March 2022 at 8 pm

Ian McInnes will look in detail at the design and construction of the 1960s residential estates in Dulwich planned by the Dulwich Estate architect, Austin Vernon and Partners.

3. Percy Thomas and Partners. Presented by Robert Proctor. Thursday 7 April 2022 at 8 pm

Robert Proctor will give an overview of the work and significance of Sir Percy Thomas of Cardiff and his practice.

4. Wheeler & Sproson:  New from Old. Presented by Dr Diane Watters. Thursday 14 April 2022  at 8pm

Dr Diane Watters will discuss Wheeler & Sproson (1954-1990) the Scottish architects who pioneered award winning site-sensitive Modern Movement urban renewal in Scotland’s historic burghs in the 1950s and 60s.
